Tonefarmer

A shared love of melodic, Brit-inspired pop brought three friends together in July of 2000 and Tonefarmer suddenly came into the world…

with barely a murmur.   “We all instantly realized this would work from the first few moments of playing together” says one ‘farmer.

But from the start, the band admits they did things rather backwards, finding more appeal with an unconventional path.

Instead of promptly gearing up to make a splash in clubs around the region, the members of Tonefarmer, Rob Hamrick (guitar, synths, vocals),

John Miracle (drums, percussion, vocals) and Chris Mundy (bass, piano, vocals) instead cocooned themselves in their practice space

and crafted their debut album, Recreation, part of which was recorded at Cincinnati’s Ultrasuede studio, with John Curley (former Afghan Whigs)

at the helm.  The group’s first memorable live shows together began a full eight months later…

Recreation went on to earn Tonefarmer some regional accolades including a Cincinnati Enquirer CAMMY Award,

a CityBeat CEA Award nomination, and a place in the top-20 unsigned artists list released by one of America’s most

influential indie rock stations, WOXY FM (woxy.com).  Over in the U.K., the prestigious web music presence, PeopleSound.co.uk,

also took notice, frequently including the band with its top 20 Best Artists.

The call of the U.K. beckoned ever more loudly around the time that Tonefarmer was set to record their second CD.

After several months of planning and perseverating, the group opted to shed convention once again and take a more challenging

route to completion of their next album.  Ultimately, they found themselves in London, England for a week of recording with

Engineer/Producer Pete Lewis (Pulp, Sting, Everything But the Girl, et. al.) at The Dairy studio in Brixton.  The result was

the 6-song EP, Where You Go, which continues to sell briskly through CDBaby.com and Apple iTunes.

This Cincinnati trio shows an interesting perspective on writing pop alternative songs that break the current mold.

The result is a very mature effort with songs that are catchy without being generic, lively without being too loud,

and intense without being overblown

Their work seems to float between upbeat, easy pop and more intense, at times haunting, songs.

The lyrics are emotive and heartfelt…the catchy lines will rattle in your head days after hearing them.

Tonefarmer…has all the elements of why a good pop song can make every bone feel good at the same time…

A great sense of melody, melodrama, storyline and sound…

Have you been wondering where all of the really poetic, emotionally driven songwriters have been hiding lately?

Well you can find a few of them in (the band) Tonefarmer…an amazing display  of audio creativity and musical talent.
